For the space-saving storage of almost 2,500 tons of long goods, Dreckshage has been operating an automated honeycomb warehouse from a third-party supplier with a total of 816 cassettes for 17 years. The heart of the system is an unmanned storage and retrieval machine (SRM), which, in addition to the driver's workstation, also has a large storage table for the picked goods.
The Bielefeld-based company planned a retrofit to ensure reliable availability of spare parts in the future and thus a high level of process reliability. To reduce the risk of technical problems during subsequent assembly, Remmert set up all the relevant new storage elements for Dreckshage in advance in its own production hall for testing purposes. The modernization measures then went according to plan: Firstly, the Remmert experts renewed the drive and control technology of the honeycomb warehouse. Secondly, the pulling technology of the storage and retrieval machine was replaced and the PRO WMS Professional warehouse management system was introduced.
A new laser measuring system was installed for distance measurement. Remmert also replaced numerous wearing parts. The biggest change was a new electromechanical drawing technology. In contrast to the hydraulic drawing unit previously used, the mechanical version offers very high availability and enables easy maintenance. The system also works much faster: the gripping tools that pull the cassettes out of the compartments are already brought into the correct position while the stacker crane is moving, enabling the cassette to be removed from storage in a time-saving manner. The usual waiting time is thus reduced to zero.
The honeycomb warehouse is equipped with the Remmert warehouse management software PRO WMS Professional. The solution connects the higher-level ERP system with the stacker crane control system. It transfers all orders stored in the ERP system to the newly integrated touchscreen of the storage and retrieval machine and later reports them as processed. At the same time, the coordinates of the storage locations are also transmitted, so that the storage and retrieval machine can now move to the precise picking position of the respective storage location for storage or retrieval.
