Currently, an average of 120 to 130 picks are taken from the 1,200 cassettes in the storage system every day. Thomann produces around 200,000 picks per year. In future, if Thomann acquires additional CNC processing machines, the current performance can easily be increased with the existing honeycomb warehouse.
In order to significantly increase the already high throughput of the honeycomb warehouse and to make optimum use of the up to 45 double cycles per hour of the SRM, Thomann decided to add a picking station to the honeycomb warehouse. The warehouse management system enables so-called multi-order picking. This means that the items of several orders are bundled together and removed from the cassettes and then distributed to the various deliveries in a second step. This procedure saves a drastic amount of time compared to the chronological picking of individual orders. A picking crane mounted above the station ensures that the high performance of the storage system can also be maintained during material movements outside the warehouse.
Thanks to the high speed and ease of operation, Thomann can pick up to 200 picks/day (8 h) via the station. High throughput is also extremely important for the optimized sawing station, which supplies eight saws with material. Only in this way can it be guaranteed that there is no downtime at the saws.
